Respite Care In Horsham
Carers need a break sometimes too. Full-time caring can be exhausting, and it’s important to take some time off so you don’t get run down.
Respite care means you can take a break from caring whilst someone else looks after the person you care for.
What is respite care?
Respite care is commonly known as a carer's break. It is most often a short stay in a care home. Our respite care residents receive the exact same standards of care and support as our full-time residents.
Caring for another person can be very mentally and physically demanding. When caring for someone for long periods of time, it's essential that you have a break every so often. Respite care enables the main carer to take a break, meaning the caree’s needs don't get neglected.
The length of a respite care stay depends on individual circumstances, but our respite care residents usually stay with us for up to four weeks.
Respite care is useful for a number of reasons. If the regular carer is going on a holiday, needs some time for themselves, or can’t commit to their usual levels of care for any reason, respite care enables them to take some time off.
It is also often useful when an individual is recovering from an accident, illness or surgery and isn’t quite ready to return to their normal routine. A short stay in a care home will make sure they’re looked after during this time.
If you require respite care services, contact us, and we’ll arrange a space. We will make a personalised care plan tailored to the individual's needs. They’ll also have their own room and will be welcomed with open arms to take part in delicious mealtimes and many activities that are on offer.
How many weeks of respite care are carers allowed?
As a carer, one question on your mind might be, “how will it affect my carers allowance?” It is important that you are in good physical and mental health if you are caring for another person. Therefore, carers have the right to take breaks and still receive their allowance.
How much time off you are allowed whilst still receiving your allowance depends on your individual circumstances. However, the Carer’s Allowance Unit suggests you are allowed up to four weeks allowance in any six-month period if you have a break from caring.
